Thailand Hospitals and Health Care for Tourists

The medical care and assistance available while you are visiting the best hotels in Thailand is not just surprisingly cheaper than most other countries, but the high standards rival the best hospitals in the world. Another issue tourists may be concerned about is the availability of medical care on the islands of Thailand. Most resorts have doctors on call for minor ailments and injuries and there are also doctor’s surgeries that tend to foreigners. However, should it ever become necessary for you to be booked into a hospital in Thailand, you have a choice of several high-end facilities. Take note that medica services here, though less expensive still cost money. Be sure to have adequate insurance to cover the bill.

Hospitals here are not restricted to big cities only. When you visit places like Phuket several high end facilities including, Phuket International Hospital and Bangkok Phuket Hospital are available and caters for all medical needs of foreigners and locals alike. It is situated just outside Phuket Town on highway 402. Patong hospital located on Sawatdirak road in Patong is another and then there is also the Thalang government hospital.

Available hospitals while staying in hotels in Krabi include, Krabi Hospital, Phi Phi Hospital, Koh Lanta Hospital and several others. Though hospitals in Krabi do not match international standards, the common problems a tourist might face can be effectively treated here. If it is a more severe situation, the patient can easily be air lifted to Phuket.

Koh Chang has as many as seven clinics on the island of which the newest is at Baan Khlong Nonsi with two English speaking doctors. These clinics are small but well equipped and the personnel are well trained professionals.

Even the relatively small Koh Phangan has a hospital in the town of Thong Sala, which is also the main entry point to the island and offers 24 hour emergency assistance. The hospital offers trauma and dental treatment and also has a family doctor on call. With more serious cases of illness or injury, the staff at Thong Sala hospital will arrange immediate transfer to Koh Samui International hospital. In Haad Rin several pharmacies and nursing services by a registered nurse can be found.

Several independent clinics with qualified doctors exist on Koh Tao, which can take care of anything from minor illness, aches and pains to bone fractures. In more serious cases, the patient will be air lifted to Koh Samui International hospital.

Many International hospitals in Bangkok and Chiang Mai  are also available. Many foreigners often come here for treatments and plastic surgery due to the high quality care and much lower medical cost.
