Constituting one of the most scenic regions in all of Thailand, Krabi is located 800 Kilometers south of Bangkok. The province consists of some 130 off shore islands and islets of different shapes and sizes. Among these are the world famous Phi Phi Islands and Koh Lanta. Legend has it that the name Krabi was born when, long ago, villagers found a sword (krabi) in the area and presented it to the Governor of the province. Later another smaller sword was found and again presented to the Governor. Regarding the items as sacred, the Governor kept the swords in the province. The swords were placed, crossing each other, in Khao Khanap Nam Cave. Since then, the crossed swords have remained part of the provincial seal.
