Koh Mak Attractions and Activities |
Being less commercially developed, this little paradise does not see the same sort of attractions and activities found on bigger and developed islands such as Samui, Phuket and others. However, nature make up for this by the inspiring natural beauty bestowed on Koh Mak. Unspoiled jungle, white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, the most unforgettable sunrises and sunsets and close proximity of other even smaller islands to further compliment the scenery are the attractions on Koh Mak. Koh Mak Temples (Wat) | | A stroll along these beaches while the sun sets or rise will recharge your batteries like few other places. Ao Nid Pier located to the east offers beautiful views of the sunrise. Close to the pier there is also a temple to walk to called Wat Samakkeethom. Ao Suan Yai beach in the west is the longest and most beautiful on the island. | Koh Mak Boat Trips | | One of the things to do on Koh Mak is to take a boat trip to neighbouring islands around Koh Mak, allowing you the opportunity to see more of this paradise. | Sunsets | | Ao Kao Beach to the north-west is the second largest and offers great swimming and views of the sunset. Fishing is popular here. | Koh Mak Snorkeling & Scuba Diving | | Whether you want to scuba, learn to scuba or just snorkel, you will find the conditions around Koh Mak absolutely ideal. The water is calm, crystal clear and shallow, making it great not only for snorkeling, but also for first time scuba divers. There are three dive companies on Koh Mak, they offer the full range of PADI certified dive courses plus dive trips for qualified divers . Most dive trips will take in the sites around Koh Rang, to the west of Koh Mak. | Koh Mak Hiking / Cycling | | Koh Mak offers some great cycling and hiking trails around the island. The roads circling the island offer lovely views and inland roads also offer scenic hiking and traveling through rubber plantations and coconut groves. | Koh Mak Kayaking | | With other lovely little islands like Koh Kam and Koh Phi in close proximity, kayaking around Koh Mak and to these islands is a great way to explore the nature of the area. | Koh Kham Island | | Opposite Ao Suan Yai Beach and is just 1km from Koh Mak, is the little island of Koh Kham. Jump on a boat and maybe even spend an evening. The island has only one resort and the crystal water is great for swimming and snorkeling. The beach also features some black volcano rock and it even has an open air restaurant. | Rayang Islands | | Rayang Nok and Rayang Nai) are two tiny island very close to Koh Mak. This is a great place to kayak and snorkel. When the tide is very low, a narrow sandy pathway appears along which you can walk across to Rayang Nai. | Koh Pee Island | | Koh Pee is another tiny speck of land and is also visible from the west of Koh Mak. “Pee” in Thai means ghosts. Do not be concerned however, it is just a name. Koh Pee is a great diving site. | Pearl Farm on Koh Maisee | | Koh Maisee, just off the northwest coast of Koh Kut is home to a pearl farm, pearls are cultivated and made into jewellery on the island and then exported or sold to jewellery shops around Asia. A trip to the pearl farm can also be combined with a visit to Koh Kut. | Elephant Trekking | | Koh Mak Pang Chang is a small elephant camp located in a quiet area on the west side of the island near Laem Tukkata. | Friendly Thai Family | | Koh Mak is home to approximately 600 residents. These people are as friendly and full of smiles as everywhere else in Thailand. Nature is there neighbour and natural beauty is all around them. It is no wonder they always seem content. Stop at any village, hut or house and be welcomed by the famous Thai smile. |
