Khao Phanom Bencha National Park in Thailand encompasses the Phanom Benja Mountain range, covering some 50 square kilometers and is located in the province of Krabi, just a few kilometers from Krabi Town, so within close proximity of many Krabi Resorts. The mist covered park is home to a host of wildlife and pristine rain forest vegetation. The highest peak of the mountain is approximately 1390 meters above sea level and is famous for bird watching and trekking. The park is well known for the three level Huay To waterfall. Huey Sadeh waterfall is another. Khao Ping Cave with its huge stalagmites and stagtites is a site worth seeing while in the park. The weather is warm and humid throughout the year with two distinctive seasons. The hot season between January to April and the rainy season from May to December. Most rainfall is experienced June to October. Of course the mountainous geography here is once again the source of rivers, and where there are rivers, there are waterfalls. Nomtok Khlong Haeng waterfall, amongst several others, is found in Mount Thep Bencha, the tallest mountain in Krabi. Flora in the park consist of Hopea odorata, Dipterocarpus alatus, lagerstronemia cupida, Malacca teak, Michelia champaca, Parkia speciosa, Baccarea sapida. Ground fauna include palms, Daemonothops, greenia wightiana and bamboos. Animal wildlife in Khao Phanom Bencha national park include wild pigs, panthers, clouded leopards, black bears, mouse deers, langurs, gibbons, stump tailed monkeys, asiatic wild dog, squirrel, white-rumped shama, hornbills, pheasants and red jungle fowls. Two of the world's rarest birds, Nordman's Greenshank and Gurney's Pitta can also be seen here. Back to Top |
