Phang- Nga province also has an annual 7-day turtle releasing Festival in March. Turtles raised by the Fisheries Dept. are released by Festival participants into the sea at Thai Muang Beach.

There are many adventurous experiences to be had in Khao Lak and the surrounding areas. Visit the absolutely breathtaking Khao Sok Natural Park. It is covered by the oldest evergreen rain forest in the world, huge limestone mountains shooting straight up in the air, deep valleys, beautiful lakes, exciting caves, wild animals and much more. The whole park covers 645 square kilometers. It is actually the heart of a complex of five continuous conservation sites that comprise the largest protected forest on the Thai-Malay peninsula, covering a total of over 4,000 square kilometers.

Take a boat cruise or sea kayak through Phang Nga Bay with it's unique limestone rock formations and sea gypsy village. Or venture further north to Khao Sok in neighbouring Surat Thani, southern Thailand's oldest and largest national park, and canoe through the amazing scenery with lakeside wildlife viewing, trekking and camping.

Two excellent golf courses are within easy reach of Khao Lak, located on the Andaman sea. The Royal Thai Navy provides an excellent course that is open to the public at Tap Lamu near the piers where boats depart for the Similan Islands. Course details are available at: Tublamu Navy Golf Course

Another great course is located at Thai Muang, a regional center approximately 20-25 minutes drive south of Khao Lak. The course is currently closed for renovations, but is expected to re-open with a marina, property development around the course and a first class professional level course.
