On 14 August 1994, Huai Nam Dang became the 81st national park of Thailand. Huai Nam Dang National Park in Thailand covers approximately 1250 square kilometers and was declared a national park primarily to stop human encroachment of the area, poaching and to contribute to a better life for the hill tribe people of Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. At least two Huai Nam Dang National Park hiking trails exist, each approximately 1,5 kilometers long. Viewpoints such as Doi Gew Lom and Doi Chang awaits hikers on the trail, offering splendid views of mist filled valleys, bright coloured orchids and and rain forest covered hills. Here, Silver Orchid Palace, a residence of Her Majesty Princess Galyani Vadhana can also be seen. The princess presided over the opening ceremony of the park. The mountainous geography, the highest peak being 1960 meters above sea level, is the source of various streams and rivulets flowing into the Ping River. Huai Nam Dang waterfall and Mae Yen are two waterfalls hikers will encounter. The latter being a two level fall and approximately 35 meters high and the other a lovely 4 level waterfall. Mae Had and and Mae Lad are another two 40 meter high waterfalls. Tha Pai and Pong Duet are two hot springs in Huai Nam Dang National Park, spewing water close to boiling point up to two meters into the air. This creates mist over the area adding to the allure. Climate is pleasant most of the year. The fauna and flora include Malabar Ironwood, Teak, Crudia Chrysantha, Red Cedar, and Orchids. A fabulous place to see when traveling Thailand. Most Chiang Mai hotels will be happy to arrange a tour. Alternatively, when booking Thailand hotels with us, we will gladly arrange your tour in advance. Back to Top |
